It occurred to me, since the holidays are COMING, and since we have such AMAZING AND TALENTED PEOPLE here, I should make a post PIMPING YOUR STUFF.  I'll post-date this so it stays at the top of my journal with the FANDOM WIDE GIFT POST.  (If you haven't filled that out, be sure to do so.  Also, feel free to edit or delete and update your old one to stay current.  ALSO, if someone gets a wild hair and feels like turning that into a SORTABLE GOOGLE DOC, that would be AMAZING.)

This has now become a list.
DYSON'S GIFT LIST

LOOK HOW SPARSE MY LIST IS!  I NEED MORE THINGS!  So, if you are an author, artist, crafter, or other person with something to sell *snicker* comment here and I'll add you to the list!!!  I'll turn it into a sortable document for easy gift-searching.  These items do not have to be fandom-related.  Leave me a link where people can buy your stuff and a description.

DON'T BE SHY.  PIMP YOURSELF.  (AND PIMP YOUR FRIENDS.)

*comments are screened for the humble and also because I am adding some of you whether you like it or not*

The holidays are coming (YES, THEY TOTALLY ARE I DON'T CARE IF IT'S JULY) and I had this amazing idea!  Did you ever think, "Oh, I want to get [info] a gift, but I don't know what they like."?????  ME, TOO.  So, I want everyone in fandom to copy/paste the information below into a comment and fill it out.  That way, if anyone ever wants to get you something, they can come back to this post, which I will tag every way imaginable so you can find it, and just do a search for your username.  SOUND LIKE A GOOD IDEA?  Also, this post is for EVERYONE.  You don't have to be on my friend's list, you don't have to be in my fandom(s), you can
wander in here from some random place and add your name and come here to search whenever you like.

Feel free to make any changes you like.  These are your preferences.  HAVE FUN!  I'll even start.

Cheryl Dyson
I'll get back to my recs as soon as I figure out what the next one will be.  SO MANY CHOICES!  Anyway, I was tagged by [info]shuga34 and I haven't actually posted a random question meme in awhile.

Rule 1 - Post the rules
Rule 2- Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then make 11 new ones.
Rule 3- Tag 11 people and link them to your post.
Rule 4- Let them know you’ve tagged them!

  1. Do you believe in reincarnation? If yes, when have you lived?  Sometimes.  My beliefs tend to change from day to day, but I have felt deja-vu and once I had a dream that felt more like a memory.  I was living in a rather desolate village and had an older brother (?!) and it was raided by men on horseback who killed everyone and torched the place.  So, yeah, that might be one of the places if reincarnation is real.  LOVELY, ISN’T IT?  LOL!  I certainly was not royalty.  I also have an affinity for ancient Rome or Greece (peasant or slave there, probably) and the Scottish highlands.  It’s almost like a sense of recognition that I don’t feel for other places in the world – does that even make sense?
  1. What are your favorite pizza toppings?  Extra sauce, mushrooms and black olives.  I’ll eat just about anything on pizza, really.
  1. Cats, dogs or goldfish? Why?  I am NOT a pet person, thanks to growing up with a pet-obsessed father.  We had ALL THE ANIMALS growing up and I vowed to have nothing hairy in my life when I became an adult.  Plus I can barely keep my own children alive.  A pet would have no chance.  “It’s been three weeks – did anyone feed that animal-thing?”  I guess if I had to have a pet I would choose a cat because they are fairly self-sufficient and will claw their way outside and eat a bird if they have to.
  1. If Ty Pennington turned up on your doorstep with an offer for an Extreme Home Makeover, would you say "yes"?  No.  The taxes alone would bankrupt me.  I’ve seen way too many stories where they build these amazing houses for people who then cannot even afford the increased electric bills and end up having to sell.  I wouldn’t turn down a few gallons of paint, though.  :D
  1. What is your first memory of Kindergarten?  Colouring pictures and eating those molasses-type cookies shaped like windmills.  They still make those!  I saw some not too long ago and was instantly transported back to five years old.
  1. What was your best vacation ever?  Going to Dragon Con in Atlanta and meeting up with BFFs and seeing Tom Felton and just hanging out with awesome people.  A close second was going to Azkatraz in San Francisco and meeting fandom people for the very first time.  That was an amazing experience.
  1. Have you ever traveled outside of your country?  Only to Canada and Mexico.  This needs to be remedied.  Hopefully next year.
  1. Star Trek -- The Original Series or The Next Generation?  Wow, that’s actually a tough one.  I think I like TNG better because the writing seems more sophisticated.  I like the plots better, but I love love love the snarkiness of ToS, especially the interaction between Kirk, Bones, and Spock.  That doesn’t really happen in TNG.  I don’t see that level of chemistry between any of the cast members.
  1.  Have you ever met a celebrity? Who?  No.  I’ve seen Tom Felton, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and some other big names, but I’m not much of a star-chaser.  I just sort of nodded at Tom Felton from across the table.  No hand shaking or photo-ops.
  1. Glee or Smash?  I have never heard of Smash and not watched a single episode of Glee, so… neither?  XD
  1. Why ARE all the good men married, buried or gay?*  LOL!  I wish I knew, bebe.  I wish I knew.

Okay, wow, 11 people.  I’m taking the first 11 commenters from one of my posts.  BWAH!  That will teach you to talk to me.  :D  Let’s go with [info]citrus_lime, [info]ginger_veela, [info]skifazoa, [info]geneva2010, [info]vaysh11, [info]jtsbbsps_dk, [info]ellecc, [info]alisanne, [info]queenie_mab, [info]themostepotente, and [info]subtlefire

QUESTIONS FOR YOU:

  1. What is your favourite fic (in any fandom) and why?
  2. Coffee or tea?
  3. Do you remember a special teacher?  Who and why?
  4. Have you been anywhere tropical?  If yes, would you want to live there or just visit?
  5. First book you can remember reading?
  6. Did you ever kiss anyone in the rain?
  7. Not including Halloween, have you ever dressed in costume in public?
  8. Tie preference:  Wide, narrow, string, bow or other?
  9. What colour and style are your underwear right now (assuming you are wearing them – yes, I had to go there)?
  10. Do you prefer a hard or soft mattress?
  11. Favourite board game?

Time to go do actual things now.  *glomps everyone*  And a random note:  If you ever send me a PM asking actual questions, please make sure you have your PM turned ON.  Makes replying kind of difficult otherwise.  JUST SAYIN'.

I've been following this on and off all day.  There were two pages of comments when I started and now there are FIVE.  I'm only up to page three (the article itself is interesting, but the comments have sucked me in).  So many amazing, intelligent, and insightful people {and a few of the other kind} that it's a bit humbling to read and I have to stop for the night, but WOW.  If you need argument fodder for any of the idiots you know, you can find all sorts of it here.

I'm not a huge fan of creature fics.  I like people and adding elements that make people non-people usually creates too much "otherness" for me to fully relate to the characters and I tend not to enjoy them as much.  I was not even going to read this when it came through Hols, because that's just how much I don't like creature fics.  I'm pretty sure [info]taradiane said something along the lines of reeeeeeaaaaadddd iiiiiiittttttt and so I grudgingly gave it a chance.  Needless to say, I was blown away.  When anyone asks me for a creature fic rec, I have a very very limited pool to choose from and this one is at the top of the stack.

This fic almost feels like watching a film on fast forward, pausing only long enough to catch short glimpses of Harry's life, but those glimpses are so full of emotion that by the end you feel you've seen the whole film and lived every moment of it along with him.  Beautifully done.  THIS FANDOM.  SO MUCH TALENT.  *so proud*

So, it's my BIRTHMONTH and you're probably wondering why I haven't been FLAILING ABOUT IT LIKE THE COMPLETE LOON THAT I AM because I'm slightly obsessed with cake my birthday.  IT'S BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT OF THINGS.

1) Coughing.  This has taken up the majority of my time for the past 30+ days and also sucked 90% of my motivation.  DNW.

2) Job Interview.  I got a random "We saw your resume..." ping and answered it and OMG I WANT TO WORK AT THIS PLACE SO BLOODY BADLY, I CAN'T EVEN.  *crosses all the things*  It would be so strange to work at a place with values again, rather than a company whose core qualities I find increasingly questionable.  One amusing moment during the interview: "There is a blogging site called Livejournal..." I had to literally clamp my jaw shut to avoid spilling my fannish guts all over the table.  *grin*  Instead I went for a vaguely interested, "ORLY?".  Of course, this place is totally savvy enough to simply Google me, so if that happens I'm outed anyway.  I am considering f-locking this entry because of that.  (I totally wrote f-licking right there, which I know some of you would be totally fine with, so... sign up for that if you like.)  *snickers*  My sole concession to separation of fandom/real life is to never mention the name of my place of employment online, just in case they don't want to be associated with my epic love of boys kissing boys.  There is no mention of my current employer on Facebook, Twitter, or any of my blogs.  As a random aside, there is another Cheryl Dyson that lives, not even kidding, a few miles from here.  I should track her down and introduce myself one day.  "HELLO, GOOD TWIN, NICE TO MEET YOU."  She would love that, I am sure.  XD  I said I considered f-locking this, but in the end I just can't and still feel like myself.  NEVER HIDE.  <--- have you seen that Ray Ban ad?  I will buy Ray Bans FOREVER now. <3  Wow, did that ever turn into randomness.  I love LJs new spoiler tags.

3) Writing.  YES, I AM STILL DOING THIS.  Not as much as I want to and need to, of course.  I spent a month editing my actualfax novel because it's going online soon.  I was shooting for June 1st, but it looks like July 1st is more rational as the website is being tweaked and I really need to edit the first book so I can repost it.  *endless blather, etc*  I also wrote an original story for the Goodreads writing fest - I'll link that puppy as soon as it goes up in June or July.  [info]arineat also wrote a LOVELY story with two adorable characters.

OKAY, THINGS THAT I AM FUCKING DOING RIGHT NOW OR IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

1) Reading [info]jordan_c_price's new novel because of the cover and the title.  (She posted a cover teaser QUITE some time ago and I knew I was going to buy it the instant it hit the web.)  I'm on chapter seven and I'm already wanting to rescue her poor MC, WHY YOU GOTTA TORTURE THE POOR BOY LIKE THAT, JCP???  Also, his potential love interest has already hooked me hard and we don't even know his NAME yet.  He is incredibly mysterious and how about I just keep gushing about this book, m'kay?  NO SPOILERS, DYSON, STOPPIT.  Go get it, peoples.  HERE.

2) Glompfest.  I have about four paragraphs of my Glompfest fic written, but I already love it.  :D  I think there are more prompts open, so run over there and grab one, okay?  And friend the comm to follow the fest if you haven't.  CLICKY.

3) RECS.  I'm still pondering my next rec.  SO MANY FICS.  I'll try to post one today.

4) ANOTHER RANDOM THING.  After all the hoopla over LJ's SCRAPBOOK policy thing, I signed up for the "early move" and they shifted all 521 (!!!!!!!!) of my pics to the new whatever.  So far I haven't seen a single broken link and everything looks lovely, so... um, something they did is actually okay?  I don't know, but I used LJ almost exclusively for my photo storage (521 OMG) so I was flipping out a bit, but it looks like ALL IS WELL.  I hope.

5) Smoochfest.  We have MANY fics (and gorgeous art!) submitted and I need to buckle down and start reading and sorting.  Last year was the WRITE ALL THE WORDS epic fest, but it looks like most of them are coming in at a more manageable 10k to 20k so we won't break your brains with an inability to read ten million words.  LOL!  And the THEME this year has produced some awesome, awesome things, even with shorter word counts.  (Which isn't to say they are ALL shorter - BWAHAHA.)

6) The HP Fanfic Fan Poll Awards (that is one bloody long title!).  Some lovely person nominated In Pieces for BEST ROMANCE and I can't even tell you how chuffed I am about that.  *beams*  Have a banner.  (I LOVE LEGOS!)

THE HP FANFIC FAN POLL AWARDS - SUMMER ROUND 2012
Overview FAQ / How to Vote

Voting period: May 1st - June 30th, 2012

7) The HP Podfic Fest - HOW FREAKING AWESOME IS THAT?  Everyone always has blanket permission to podfic my stuff, but now it's official on that site.  There can never be enough podfic.  If you're interested at all podficcing or having your fics read, go here!  (Have another banner.)
Let your fics be HEARD!!!

8) Will someone please stop me from redecorating my boys' houses on FB SIMS?  It's addicting as hell and takes HOURS that I should be writing.  Seriously, two hours wasted last night selecting new floors and wallpaper for Hugo's revised house.  I should be banned.  (I really want to add a second bathroom to Char's house because it's almost perfect but could really use a half-bath...)

There is probably more that I've forgotten, but I REALLY need to freaking write something, so I'll stop blathering and get back to that.  It's Cinco de Mayo and I HAVE TEQUILA!  WOOHOO!!!  (Not drinking it yet - it's only 8am.  Even I'm not that hardcore.)  XD

Was that enough babbling, GEEZ?  Oh and one more thing - do you prefer the spoiler cut or the actual LJ cut?  I'm lazy so when I'm reading I actually really like the spoiler cut when reading my f-list, since it opens right there and I don't have to go to a new window/tab.

This one is a special rec because TODAY IS HER BIRTHDAY!  WOOT!  :D  I know she has written a gozillion fics and several of them are more popular than this one, but this is the one of hers that I love the most.

This Draco is practical and confident, and seems to be perfectly content with how his life has turned out.  He skillfully juggles his career, his son, his ex-wife, and his friends with a minimum of drama.  Everything is just fine for him.  Until Harry enters his life.  Although I like Draco in this fic, I love Harry.  Despite the fact that it's written in first person and Draco's POV, she does an amazing job exposing Harry's traits, from almost-shy uncertainty to determination, to ultra-hot Auror confidence, and finally jealousy.  Through it all he has a sense of humour that chips away at Draco and makes it easy to understand how Draco can fall so hard so quickly.  The time they spend together (not just the sex) is glorious.  I always hate when they sleep with other people, but in this fic it's sort of necessary for Draco to understand that you can never go back, only onward.

Our recommendation today is brought to you by the Department of Oh-My-GUH.  Since my last rec was five bazillion words long, I figured I would rec some shorter things to tide you over in between reading the Monster Fic of Monsters.  (aka really long fics)

If you haven't already read this you must be either new to the H/D fandom or living with your parents under a rock.  I've read it probably 75 times.  XD  (76 if you count this morning.)

Anyway, why this fic?  SEX MAGIC!  FUCKING AWESOME HARRY!  NAKED DRACO BOUND TO A PILLAR!  I don't think it needs any more hype than that, really.  ONWARD!

This next rec is actually two fics, but you can't really read one without the other because it's a ginormous saga of awesome.  Most of my prior recs have been angsty as hell, followed by a very satisfying ending.  This series is more of a slow-building love affair that, for me, expands and enriches the world created by JKR and follows our boys into adulthood and maturity.

Harry no longer has boyhood problems, but grownup problems.  He has a new job and new friends, new irritants and new enemies.  I love that his conflicts are not caused by an overwhelming evil wizard trying to destroy him, but instead by a terrible supervisor, a stressful workload, and the added complication of an old nemesis who isn't quite what he expected.

And Draco.  *happy sigh*  Draco has his own problems and it seems like nothing he does will ever be quite good enough, and yet HE JUST KEEP TRYING.  [info]saras_girl throws these two amazing adults together and they start out just prickly enough to be interesting.  And then they get to be friends.  And finally more than friends.  Their journey from former enemies to lovers is SO FUCKING GORGEOUS that this entire fic is like wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket of GUH.  There are so many tiny things that made me sigh with bliss (the word "yes", the damned STRING, and the OMFG napkin rings, not to mention various office supplies...)  NOW I WANT TO READ IT AGAIN.  AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.

I know I've already recced this fic, but I'm putting it on the official 100 list because it's the only one that has caused to start a collection of THINGS in real life.  I now have four cobalt vases (and look for new ones EVERY TIME I GO INTO A STORE).  You probably know what fic this is just from that, but in case you don't WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR GO READ IT RIGHT THE HELL NOW!!!!

I mainly love this not just because it was written for ME but also because it contains one of those key scenes I love to mull over in my head when I'm supposed to be working.  THE PANTRY SCENE, YOU KNOW IT.  The whole story is so freaking heartbreaking and I just love Draco's eternal faithfulness, something that fic writers usually don't give to Draco, which made it all the more special.  I also ADORED Ron and Hermione in this, particularly Ron.  *hearteyes forever*  He is another one whose personality is sometimes shoved into the background, but he absolutely shines in this fic.  Harry's skittishness in this story is so terrible (and believable) and I found myself understanding why he reacted the way he did even while shaking the computer and screaming at him to go back to Draco where he belonged.  And then, of course, there are the cobalt vases.  *wibbles*

There is a mod over at [info]hd_remix who is so tricksey and conniving that she managed to get me to sign up for her fest, despite the fact that I have avoided it for ALWAYS due to my control-freakishness and inability to let one of my children fics slide into the hands of someone in order to have it remixed.  She is the evil.  *stares warily at [info]nursedarry*

ANYWAY, I'm so glad I let her twist my arm, because [info]khasael did an AMAZING job taking my tiny little ficlet (Need) and turning it into an amazing story that more than does the original justice.  I LOVE IT SO MUCH.  :D

So please to be going here and reading Sine Qua Non because it is awesome.

From the Department of Random Babbling, I LOVE THE 100 THINGS!!!  People have been doing some awesome stuff and I'm loving seeing the f-list busy again, and with such diversity.  There are quotes and videos and prompts and photos - such a great idea.  I hope more of you will participate, if only to post 100 THINGS I SPONTANEOUSLY THOUGHT OF THIS MOMENT or 100 PICTURES OF MY BEDROOM.  Seriously, I could keep this idea going for decades just posting random shit.  [info]enchanted_jae could draw 100 STICK FIGURES.  LOLOLOL

After the first two, there is really no rhyme or reason to my rec list.  I have so many "favourites" that they all just jumble together into a huge pile and can only be sorted by a fandom gathering and a game of "Have you read...?"  Therefore, I'm going to just try mixing them up a bit.  The first two were quite long and angsty and SRS BSNS, so this one is shorter and hotter and yet still beautifully written.  I know some people have immense hatred for "first person POV" but I have always liked it, and in this case I think being firmly entrenched in Draco's thoughts makes the initial humiliation (and later the arousal) all the more intense.  I love stories that involve the Slytherins being extra Slytherin-y and this fic delivers with well-meaning friends who only torture Draco for his own good.

Harry is gorgeous in this.  <3<3<3<3<3

Harry's face was absolutely furious. He looked as if he would have been shouting, if he hadn’t been in an obvious full body bind, that is. His eyes were most expressive.

"We’ll let you go if you promise not to yell," Daphne said. "We’re playing truth or dare. Sorry to kidnap you like this. We don’t mean any harm."

Harry didn’t move because, rather obviously, he couldn’t.

Blaise relocked the door before he reversed the spell on Harry who, to my surprise, didn’t yell, just stood there looking bemused if anything. Certainly cockier than I’d be if I’d been kidnapped by a group of Gryffindors, and was trapped without a wand in their common room.

Then Harry pulled out his wand.

"Fuck," Blaise said, and we all tensed.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t hex you all into tiny pieces," Harry said, rather reasonably, in my opinion.

This fic sometimes edges into Number One when I'm in the mood.  For a fic to be on my FAVS list, it has to have what I like to call "key scenes".  These are those moments in the fic that you find yourself thinking about from time to time, the bits that had the most emotional impact for you.

A Thousand Beautiful things had a number of those, but the key scenes in this fic seemed to have a bigger punch, for some reason.  I'm sometimes perplexed about why I like this so much, because it features a Draco that's far more campy than I'm comfortable with.  However, with that said, he's still very much DRACO and I love that she was able to take a concept I'm normally not into and make it work so well.  She also made me love Snape, which is quite a feat.  He is horrible and brilliant and perfect in this fic.  Whenever I think of this story, I always go back to the three key scenes that make it special for me - one of them is in the first sequel, which I consider to be the epilogue to the original and can't be missed.  It also has a lovely Auror Harry who is purely awesome.  The sequel contains my favourite fic quote of all time.  :D

Draco Malfoy opened the door before Harry had a chance to knock. So Harry was standing there with his hand in the air like an idiot, and it was the first he'd seen Malfoy in a year and a half, and Malfoy looked especially pale and drawn, with dark purple circles under tired grey eyes like he'd been torturing himself for fun at night instead of sleeping. He wasn't wearing any shoes, which, despite the neat condition of his black day robes, made him look oddly dishevelled. Naturally the first thing out of Harry's mouth was, "Malfoy. You look like shit."

"And that's the ugliest shirt I've ever seen. Do come in and have some coffee, Potter."

Harry glanced down at the shirt under his Auror's robes in puzzlement. The salesgirl had sworn yellow was the new black. But Malfoy didn't linger to offer fashion tips and Harry followed him inside Malfoy Manor, wondering if this meeting was going to go as badly as he feared.

Despite the hundreds (possibly thousands) of fics I've read, this one still tops out at number one on my favs list.  There are a couple of reasons for this, but the primary reason is CHARACTER GROWTH.

This is a Draco-centric fic and he starts out being utterly selfish and having a clear goal in mind that has little to do with his apparently selfless behaviour (that no one actually knows is selfless).  As the fic progresses, his goal becomes blurred and eventually changes completely, even though he doesn't recognize that fact himself.  Additionally, this fic has THE MOST AMAZING EVIL SPELL OMFGGGGG.  I have the biggest weakness for intelligent, original magic and this fic delivers the ultimate in twisted, diabolical spells.  Thirdly, I cried ACTUAL TEARS which has happened to me about three times while reading fic because I'm just that heartless.

It does have its flaws, as no fic is perfect.  I could have done without all mention of Snape in the beginning and tend to skim over that when reading.  It doesn't do anything for Draco's development, IMO.  Harry's character is somewhat vague in places, but that can't be helped in a single-POV fic.  Oddly, I also loved that Harry pulled away from Draco because of his friends' distrust.  It seemed a very Harry thing to do and the fact that Draco accepted it and forgave him by the end made him all the more human and cemented that amazing CHARACTER GROWTH for me.  *blissful sigh*  Also, every mention of Dean Thomas is 100% love.  I have a weakness for well-developed supporting characters and Dean's growth was just as profound as Draco's.  Really, everyone involved in this fic was taken for a ride and came out better for it by the end.

I JUST LOVE THIS STORY SO MUCH, OKAY?

Anyway, here is linkage for you:

After some pondering I've decided to add excerpts to these.  Because I like to tease you guys.  :D

"Potter, I don't owe you an explanation. I have my reasons." Why did he have to make this so hard?

"Malfoy—"

"Look, I'll find you someday when this is all over and explain it over drinks. The Leaky Cauldron okay with you?" Even as he said the words and imagined the two of them relaxing over firewhisky, he knew he'd never see that fantasy come true. They wouldn't both survive this war.

"No. Don't go, Malfoy. Please."

Looking back, he never did figure out why he reacted the way he did - maybe it was a way to say goodbye to his childhood. Or it could have been a reaction to his earlier, humbling confession to Severus. It was all so cold, so final - the hall, the night, the words echoing around him. Everything was closing in on him, freezing him. Maybe he was only looking for warmth. Goodbye ... goodbye ... this is the last time....

But something in the tone of Potter's voice, something in his whispered plea, made him surrender to the impulse to draw close to his rival, to carefully rest his hands on his shoulders to steady him and to pull him close. He felt warm breath dancing on his cheek, suddenly faster and more erratic than during the speech, now intimate and tempting. He acted without wanting to think too hard about what he was doing - what they were both doing. He stilled Potter's gasp with his lips and felt the responding pressure as though it was a wave breaking over him. Drowning him. Goodbye.

And in this dark, empty corridor, where he stood balanced between two worlds - here between the past and the unknown future - he could pretend that this kiss was the only thing that mattered. Here, he allowed himself to imagine he was no longer Draco Malfoy, with every bit of history that name dragged with it, but just a lonely soldier headed off to war. And here, he could almost believe that Potter was different, too.

They both pulled away as reality slowly reasserted itself. His heart pounding, his breath unsteady, he reluctantly dropped his hands and took a single step back. He'd acted with recklessness, with no reason he could name, and his head was whirling. He certainly hadn't expected to relish or to take pleasure in their kiss quite like that - but he had.

"What - what was that for?" Potter managed to stammer.

He smiled without any effort. "For trying. And maybe for luck."

I've seen several people doing this and since I haven't been posting as much as I should (YES, I KNOW I NEED TO WRITE MORE!) and after pondering WTF I could post about 100 times (other than the usual random blathering I generally torture you with) it occurred to me that my recommendations list is painfully pathetic, especially considering just how many saved fics I have on my flash drives.  Therefore, I am going to make 100 ACTUAL RECS.  *gasp*  Once I get started I hope to continue past 100 because just from last year's [info]hd_holidays alone I have a fuckton.  I'm also planning to put them on a handy-dandy sortable list so you can sort by whatever the hell you like.  GOOD IDEA, Y/Y?

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

Also, I am quite jealous of the Merlin fandom right now because they have THIS.  I WANT THIS FOR H/D AND I WANT IT YESTERDAY!!!!!  What an awesome, fun concept!  :D :D :D

A very belated update here.  I can't believe I've been basically gone from LJ for TWO FULL WEEKS.  *horrified gasp*  Between helping my mum clear out her entire house and then Norwescon and then being UTTERLY SICK, I haven't had the energy to do more than stare blearily at the screen and try to soak in what I've missed.

BUT I AM BAAAAAACK!!!!  :D

As usual, [info]norwescon was AMAZING, especially since we had so many fangirls this year!  Every year we get more and more, so don't be shy about signing up for next year.  (It's March 28 - 31, 2013 *cough*)  I spent many hours glomping my beloved [info]cleo_jay, who was brave enough to stay with me for several days.  The boychild spent many hours tormenting her, thereby cementing her acceptance into our crazed unit. I would have liked to spend more time with my girls, but apparently they all had an amazing time hanging out together while I was busy running all over the building.  At least I got to see them at the H/D meetup, which was attended by [info]oldenuf2nb, [info]deerang2002, [info]cinnatart, [info]byaghro, [info]girljim,[info]jtsbbsps_dk and our lovely new friend [info]skifazoa.  Unfortunately, [info]bewarethesmirk was sick and couldn't make it.  *sadface*  [info]girljim made butterbeer, which was SO SO SO GOOOOOOD.  I could drink that daily.  (Basically Cream Soda and Butterscotch Schnapps topped with fresh whipped cream.  NOM!)  There were also brief appearances later by [info]winnett and [info]itsjustgwen, although I missed Gwen and only got to snuggle [info]winnett for a moment.

I HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU BACK NEXT YEAR, OKAY?  AND MORE OF YOU, TOO!!!!  (That sounds kind of pervy now that I think about it.)  *snickers*

Side note:  Muggle Quidditch is AMAZING.  Utterly amazing.  Despite everyone's con-exhaustion on Sunday, the game was continuously filled with players and kept going strong for FOUR HOURS.  We will definitely be bringing that back in the future.  I would have played myself if I'd been more functional.

Next up, LUBRICUS!!!  I can hardly wait to attend a con where I can actually partake of the programming instead of running around trying to pull off said programming and putting out fires.  I know several of you are going, including some of you I haven't yet met!  *excited*

ALSO, for you local peeps, itsjustgwen inherited this site and since we tend to meet monthly or bi-monthly I thought it might be nice to utilize an actual meeting tracker thingy (rather than sending 30 emails asking, "Friday, right?  11:00 or 11:30? like we usually do.  Please do be clicking here and signing up.  Woohoo!  Seattle Harry Potter Meetup Group.  Also, when you sign up, be sure to read the "Profile Questions".  They are quite funny and tell you how long since the page has been used.  XD  Don't think you have to be in Seattle to join.  Even if you pop into town for a visit you can check the page and see if we're getting together sometime.  (We usually meet for lunch, but it would be fab to do more things.)

Now back to my regularly scheduled coughing fit.

(BTW - YOUR SMOOCHFEST SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE IN JUST OVER TWO WEEKS!!!!!  ISN'T THAT EXCITING?)

I'm going to try to rec more so that I can share my favourite things with y'all.  I have no idea how I stumbled on this fic, since Beltane is not my favourite thing.  I think I was browsing a rec list looking for something else and was intrigued by the summary.  I DON'T EVEN KNOW.  It sat open on one of my fifty tabs for weeks and weeks and I finally read it last night via Procrastination 101.

ANYWAY, you know how sometimes you get cocky and think, "Hey, I'm not a bad writer!" and then you read a fic that makes you think, "Fuck, why can't I write like this?"  Yes, this is one of those.  Gorgeous and concise and hot and beautiful.  All in 9,000 words.  Both boys are just...  *insert all the hearts*

Here is the summary and the link to the fic.  GO READ!

Summary: Some things, you need to learn on the job.
Author's Note: Treacle-tartlet, you asked for: auror!fic, powerful!Harry, snarky!Draco, love-bites, urgent!sex, rampant sexual tension, spanking, and smut. Prompt words were: asparagus, cold beer, and ploughing. Um. I took that and wrote this. I am so, so sorry. At least it's been britpicked by an actual British person, as requested. :)

Hello darlings!

A couple of updates for everyone.

Firstly, the H/D Meetup at Norwescon is a GO!  It will be Saturday, April 7th at 3:00pm in my room (wherever that might be) so even if you aren't planning to come to the Con itself, maybe you can drop in and (have a drink) say hi to your fellow fangirls.  *twirls*  Please note: On Saturday there is NO PARKING at the hotel and I'm not completely sure about the parking garages/lots in the area.  I guarantee the lot at the hotel will be full.  Best bet is to take the Link from downtown if you're coming from the north and parking at a Park N' Ride and hopping a bus if you're coming from the south.  Planned attendees for sure are [info]cinnatart, [info]byaghro, [info]oldenuf2nb, [info]cleo_jay, [info]jtsbbsps_dk, [info]savagesnakes, [info]deerang2002, [info]bewarethesmirk, [info]girljim, and certain others who don't have LJ accounts (what is that even?).  WHO DID I FORGET?

Secondly, we have a fanart panel OF AWESOME but since it is for multi-fandoms, we're looking for your fav fanart IN ANY AND ALL FANDOMS.  Please to be pasting the links directly into your comments - no need to do fancy formatting.  NC17 is fine, as well as more gen pieces.  I have several in the HP fandom, Merlin, and Inception, but not so much in others.  SEND ME YOUR FAVS!  (Please to be including het and femmeslash and why not - even tentacles.  XD  (Might regret that last thing...)

Thirdly, there is no thirdly except that I probably won't be writing much until mid-April, but then it will be SMOOCHFEST TIME.  Okay, I lied, I'm working on Smoochfest now because a day without writing is like a day without AIR.  (Or possibly a day without coffee, because I haven't actually gone without air and can't really utilize that as an accurate analogy.)  *cough*

ANYWAY, HOPE TO SEE YOU IN APRIL!!!!!

I know, you're going to read it anyway, because [info]faithwood wrote it, but you MIGHT get over there and say, "2ND PERSON POV WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS, ANYWAY?" and you might be tempted to click away but that would be a VERY BAD IDEA because for a tiny little ficlet this is AMAZING AND GORGEOUS AND OMFGGGGGGG just...

CLICKY HERE TO READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you know, SMOOCHFEST CLAIMING IS THIS WEEK!!!  *flails*  Find important information about that HERE!

Next, there is an awesome new community started because of certain real life dramas and the realization that there were many fandom people in need of assistance, from a simple "How the heck do I find an apartment in Los Angeles?" to situations far more dire and terrifying.  There are many charity sites out there, but this is not a site for monetary help, at least not yet.  Mostly we wanted a gathering place for information OF ALL KINDS.  If you can offer help, advice, suggestions, or need help, advice, or suggestions, please check it out.  [info]fandomhelp

And back to a lighter note, if you want to write some drabbles for the Inception fandom, the next round of [info]ae_ldws still has five open spots.  (And a pretty new layout!)  CLICKY TO SIGN UP!

Also, Goodreads has an amazingly huge M/M Romance group (5,000+ members) and they actually have an original fiction FEST TYPE THINGY.  OMG.

I may or may not have signed up.  And arm-wrestled [info]arineat into it.  Everyone poke her and make her get writing.  And if you haven't signed up/joined/started writing WHY NOT?
